Which suppliers pay the best SEG rates?
For an existing system without a new installation purchase, E.ON Next and EDF have the highest flat rate in this selected group at 13p/kWh, subject to their supply and eligibility conditions. This is not a whole-market winner or a lowest-bill finding. [2][3]
| Supplier / offer | Export rate / term | Key eligibility |
|---|---|---|
| E.ON Next Export Exclusive v3 | 13p; fixed 12 months | E.ON Next import excluding time-of-use tariffs such as Next Drive, with Economy 7 and 10 excepted; residential solar up to 15 kW, smart export meter. [2] |
| EDF Export 12m V2 | 13p; fixed 1 year | EDF electricity customer; up to 50 kW, MCS certificate and DNO letter. Linked terms also mention gas: see the method note. [3][4] |
| Octopus Outgoing | 12p; variable flat | Eligible Octopus import tariff and half-hourly smart export readings. Battery not required. [6][8] |
| British Gas Export Premium | 12p; variable | British Gas electricity supply; systems up to 15 kW, smart meter and accepted certification. [9] |
| OVO SEG Beyond Exclusive | 12p | OVO home energy customer; eligible generation up to 30 kW. OVO says payment readings usually come from your smart meter automatically. [10] |
| Good Energy Solar Savings | 12p; variable | Good Energy supply customer with solar and half-hourly smart meter. [11] |
| E.ON Next Flex Export v1 | 6p; variable | No E.ON import requirement; eligible generation, smart export meter. [2] |
| So Energy So Export Flex | 4.5p as published, including VAT | No So Energy import requirement; eligible generator and export metering. [12] |
| Octopus SEG | 4.1p; flat | Export-only offer can pair with another import supplier; eligible generation and export meter. [7] |
| OVO SEG | 4p | For eligible home generation with electricity supplied elsewhere. [10] |
| EDF SEG Export Variable | 3p; variable | Available with another import supplier; eligible generation and smart/half-hourly meter. [3] |
Untied means you can keep a different electricity import supplier. It does not mean there are no technical or application conditions. Supplier-linked rates may be attractive, but compare the import quote before moving.
How did we compare export tariffs?
This is a desk comparison of seven suppliers' current household product pages: Octopus, E.ON Next, EDF, British Gas, OVO, Good Energy and So Energy. They provide documented examples of untied, supply-linked and installation-linked offers. We do not cover every supplier or bespoke contract.
Our decision order is eligibility, then total electricity cost, then price certainty and operational requirements. The table does not rank customer service, installation quality or future prices. Supplier promotions do not determine our recommendations.
Although people search for UK SEG rates, the statutory SEG scheme covers Great Britain: England, Scotland and Wales. This table is not a Northern Ireland export-contract comparison. See the SEG guide for application rules. [1]
EDF's current key-features page specifies electricity import for Export 12m V2 and Export Exclusive V3. The terms linked for each (October 2025 for Export 12m V2, March 2026 for Exclusive V3) also say electricity and gas import in clause 2.1(g). Get the applicable terms confirmed, including any gas condition, before relying on either offer. [20] We show the published 13p rate, but do not model it as an electricity-only switch. [4][5]
Are the higher export rates worth buying new equipment for?
Check offers you already qualify for, but do not buy hardware just to access a headline export rate. Compare the entire installation price and what happens after the promotional term.
| Offer | Published rate | Purchase and supply conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Good Energy Solar Savings Exclusive | 25p; fixed 12 months | Good Energy-installed solar and battery, Good Energy import, half-hourly meter; then standard Solar Savings. [11] |
| OVO SEG Install Exclusive | Up to 20p | OVO-installed panels and/or battery, OVO electricity customer, eligible capacity up to 30 kW; obtain exact offered rate. [10] |
| EDF Export Exclusive 12m V3 | 18p | Contact Solar lead form on or after 2 March 2026 resulting in a qualifying new installation. The product page also specifies enquiry and purchase after 2 March. EDF electricity import and meter/certification conditions apply, and you must have solar panels at the home. Its March 2026 terms also say electricity and gas import in clause 2.1(g): see the method note. Once per Contact Solar purchase; moves to Export Variable if you change electricity supplier. [3][4][20] |
| E.ON Next Export Premium v3 | 17.5p; fixed 12 months | E.ON installation from 10 November 2025; residential renewable systems up to 15 kW; smart export meter; one tariff per property, no renewal. [2] |
Illustrative: an extra 10p/kWh on 1,000 kWh of annual export is £100 of extra income. That figure excludes any change in import cost or equipment price. It cannot justify an upgrade on its own.
Why is a higher export rate not always a lower bill?
A higher export price can be outweighed by more expensive imports, a larger standing charge or unfavourable timing. Use actual metered imports and exports; do not assume all solar generation is sold.
Net electricity cost = import charges + standing charges - export payments.
For each time period: multiply its kWh by its rate. Then add the periods.
| Period / charge | Flexible Octopus import | Flux import / export |
|---|---|---|
| 02:00 to 05:00 | 26.5956p/kWh | 14.5584p / 5.2357p per kWh |
| 16:00 to 19:00 | 26.5956p/kWh | 33.9598p / 28.5986p per kWh |
| Other hours | 26.5956p/kWh | 24.2543p / 9.7966p per kWh |
| Daily import standing charge | 41.3869p/day | 40.4025p/day |
Octopus's API shows the Flux import standing charge rising from 40.4025p to 42.2934p a day from 19 October 2026; unit rates for that date were not yet published when we checked. [16]
Flux is for solar and battery owners with smart import and export metering, an MCS certificate for the installation, and Octopus import and export. Flexible import can be paired with Outgoing. Region C is an illustrative London pricing area, not your postcode quote. [13][8][15][16][17]
What happens for three different households?
These are hypothetical timing tests with existing equipment. A imports 2,000 kWh and exports 1,500 kWh annually, with no battery. B and C each import 2,000 kWh and export 1,000 kWh, with a battery already installed.
B imports 10 per cent in the cheap Flux period, 40 per cent in other hours and 50 per cent at peak; exports 90 per cent in other hours and 10 per cent at peak. C imports 60, 30 and 10 per cent respectively; exports 30 per cent in other hours and 70 per cent at peak. These are chosen metered-energy profiles, not measured customers or promised battery schedules.
| Household / tariff pair | Import rate / standing charge | Export rate used | Net electricity cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| A: solar, no battery Octopus Flexible import + E.ON Next Flex export (two suppliers) | 26.5956p/kWh; 41.3869p/day | 6p/kWh | £593 |
| A: solar, no battery Flexible + Outgoing | 26.5956p/kWh; 41.3869p/day | 12p/kWh | £503 |
| B: battery, peak-heavy imports Flexible + Outgoing | 26.5956p/kWh; 41.3869p/day | 12p/kWh | £563 |
| B: battery, peak-heavy imports Flux import + export | 28.1375p weighted; 40.4025p/day | 11.6768p weighted | £593 |
| C: battery, shifted timing Flexible + Outgoing | 26.5956p/kWh; 41.3869p/day | 12p/kWh | £563 |
| C: battery, shifted timing Flux import + export | 19.4073p weighted; 40.4025p/day | 22.9580p weighted | £306 |
A saves an illustrative £90 by changing export from 6p to 12p while retaining the same Flexible import tariff. At the 13 October standing charge, B pays about £30 more on Flux than Flexible plus Outgoing and C about £257 less; at the 42.2934p a day charge listed from 19 October, about £37 more and £250 less. The peak export price alone cannot tell you which household gains. These are our calculations from the stated inputs. [2][6][15][16][17]
The comparison holds the checked prices constant for 365 days; it is not a forecast of the coming year. Future rate or VAT changes, exit fees, equipment costs and FIT generation payments are excluded. It compares fixed metered volumes and timing, without simulating battery losses or a new operating schedule. Use your own half-hourly readings for a switching decision.
Which Octopus export tariff is best for your setup?
Start with flat Outgoing if you want a straightforward rate and have an eligible import tariff. It pays 12p/kWh in this snapshot. If you want to keep another supplier for import, Octopus's export-only SEG offer is 4.1p/kWh. [6][7]
Prime Outgoing is a 12-month fixed-term tariff paying 16p/kWh from 16:00 to 19:00 and 9p otherwise; flat Outgoing is variable. For the same import tariff, Prime earns more export income than 12p flat only when more than 3/7 of your export, about 42.9 per cent, falls in that peak window, and only while the flat rate stays at 12p. That is our calculation: 9 + 7 × peak share > 12. Confirm the exact import pairing before applying. [6][8]
Agile Outgoing changes its rate every half hour. Compare your export-weighted income over the same period; a high evening screenshot is not an annual average. Standard Flux changes both import and export prices by time band and needs solar plus a battery. [6][13]
We do not rank Intelligent Flux as an open offer here. The page we checked contains both a temporarily-unavailable notice and an installer-customer-only notice. Those notices do not provide a clear general sign-up route, so confirm availability directly if considering it. [14]
Can you sell electricity back to the grid with E.ON Next?
Yes, through a qualifying export contract. Next Flex Export pays 6p and does not require E.ON import supply. Next Export Exclusive v3 pays 13p but requires an eligible E.ON import tariff and excludes time-of-use tariffs such as Next Drive, with Economy 7 and Economy 10 excepted. Its household system cap is 15 kW. [2]
That exclusion can matter for EV owners: losing a cheap charging window may cost more than the extra export earns. Compare the complete import quote and export eligibility together.
What if you already receive Feed-in Tariff payments?
Keep generation and export payments separate. You cannot receive SEG and FIT export payments for the same electricity; opt out of FIT export through your FIT licensee before joining SEG. [18] OVO, a FIT licensee, says you can switch FIT export to SEG and keep receiving FIT generation payments. [19]
Compare what you actually export against your current deemed or metered FIT export income. Ask the licensee what an export-meter change means for future payments and the applicable switching restrictions. Restrictions differ: OVO says you can opt in and out of FIT once a year, EDF says you cannot opt back in to FIT export for 12 months, and Octopus says you cannot switch to Outgoing Octopus if you started receiving FIT payments in the last 12 months. [3][6][19] See the FIT guide before making that choice.
When were these rates checked, and what changed?
This is the first dated version of this comparison, checked 13 October 2026. No previous Worthwatt rate history is claimed. We prioritised current product pages over older press releases and undated comparison snippets.
