Who we are
Worthwatt runs worthwatt.co.uk and is run by the Worthwatt team. We are the controller of the details you give us. Contact for anything in this policy: hello@worthwatt.co.uk.
What we collect
When you request a quote, we collect:
- your postcode;
- the type of home, and whether you own it, are its landlord or rent it;
- what you want a quote for, and one detail about the job (for example which way your roof faces, whether you already have solar panels, or what is wrong with your inverter);
- when you would like the work done;
- your name, and your phone number and/or email address;
- which page of our site you came from.
We do not ask for financial details. You do not have to give us any of this, but without a postcode and a way to contact you we cannot look for an installer or ask whether you would like an introduction. We do not make decisions about you by automated means.
When you visit the site, our host, Cloudflare, processes your device's network (IP) address and basic details of each request to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks. When you send a quote request, we keep a one-way coded version of your network address for up to a day, to stop the form being misused; it cannot be turned back into the address.
This site does not set cookies and does not use advertising or tracking tools. It keeps two small items in your browser for the current visit only, which are deleted when you close the tab: your reference number after you send a request, and, if you used the battery planner, whether you have solar panels, so that the quote form can fill in that answer for you to check. The figures you type into the battery planner stay in your browser and are not sent to us.
Why we use your details, and our lawful basis
| What we do | Lawful basis | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Keep your request and look for an MCS-certified installer who covers your area | Steps you asked us to take (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)) | You asked us to look for an installer for you |
| Contact you about your request, to ask whether a named installer may contact you | Steps you asked us to take (Article 6(1)(b)) | One message, and at most one reminder. It asks your permission and does not advertise anything. |
| Pass your details to that one named installer | Your consent, given when you say yes (Article 6(1)(a)) | You can withdraw it at any time (see below). |
| Keep a record of your answer, and of any introduction | Our legal obligation to keep tax records (Article 6(1)(c)), and our legitimate interest in being able to show you agreed (Article 6(1)(f)) | See "How long we keep your details". |
| Protect the form from misuse (the coded network address) | Our legitimate interest in keeping the service working and secure (Article 6(1)(f)) | Kept for up to a day. |
Who we share your details with
- One installer, only if you agree. We tell you the installer's name before we pass on anything, and we tell you which details we will pass on. We never pass your details to more than one installer per request, and we never sell or share them with anyone else for marketing.
- Installers pay us. The installer pays Worthwatt a fee for each introduction. That is how the site is funded. It does not change our guides or figures.
- Our service providers. Cloudflare, Inc. hosts this website and stores your request in its database for us, under a data processing agreement that only lets it use your details to provide that service. Our email and phone providers carry the messages we send you about your request.
- Once an installer has your details, it is responsible for them as a separate organisation, under its own privacy policy. It may use them to respond to your request and, if you go ahead, to provide its service and meet its own legal obligations. Our agreement with installers does not allow them to sell your details or use them for unrelated marketing.
Transfers outside the UK
Your request is stored in the European Union, which UK law recognises as giving adequate protection. Cloudflare, Inc. is a US company, and its systems or staff in the United States may access the data to run the service. That transfer is covered by the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which Cloudflare is certified; if that certification ended, Cloudflare's agreement with us applies the standard contractual clauses with the UK's International Data Transfer Addendum instead.
How long we keep your details
| Situation | How long |
|---|---|
| We do not find an installer who covers your area | Deleted 90 days after you send your request |
| You do not reply to our message | Deleted 30 days after we close your request (7 days after our first message) |
| You say no to the installer we name | Deleted 30 days after your answer |
| You ask us not to contact you again | We keep only your email or phone number and the date, so we do not contact you |
| You say yes and we introduce you | Full details kept for 12 months after the introduction. After that we keep only your name, the installer, the dates, the fee record and a copy of your agreement, until 6 years after the end of the financial year of the installer's invoice, for tax records and in case of a dispute about the introduction |
If a complaint or dispute is open, we keep the records it concerns until it is resolved.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your details;
- correct them;
- delete them;
- stop or limit how we use them, or object to how we use them;
- give you your details in a portable format, where the law allows.
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time by replying to our message or contacting us. That does not affect what was done before you withdrew it. If you have already been introduced, we will tell the installer the same day, but it is separately responsible for the details it holds.
We reply within one month. There is normally no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have used your details, please tell us first at hello@worthwatt.co.uk. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it without undue delay and tell you the outcome.
You can also complain to the Information Commission, the UK data protection regulator: ico.org.uk, telephone 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if how we use your details changes, and show the date at the top. We keep each past version with the dates it was live.
