About Worthwatt

The short answer

Worthwatt is a UK website for people deciding whether solar panels or a home battery are worth it for their home. We explain what they cost, what they could save and how to check a quote, using official figures with the working shown, and we say so when the answer is no.

What you will find on Worthwatt

  • Guides on what solar panels and batteries cost, whether they pay back, export tariffs, grants, VAT and planning rules.
  • The battery planner, which compares a year of electricity costs for your home with and without a battery. The figures you enter stay in your browser.
  • Help checking a quote and an installer before you sign.
  • A free quote request. If you ask, we look for an MCS-certified installer who covers your area, and we only pass on your details if you agree.

How we work

Our figures come from sources we open and read, mostly government departments, regulators, official schemes and manufacturers, and each guide lists them with the date we read them. Where we work something out ourselves, we label it as our calculation and show the inputs. Every guide is fact-checked separately from the writing before it is published. The full process is on how we check our figures.

What we will not do

  • Invent figures, customers, case studies or reviews.
  • Tell you what you will save. We show what homes like yours could save, and what that depends on.
  • Talk you into buying when the numbers say no. If a cheaper step, such as a better export tariff, does more for you, we say so first.
